The Power of Tea

It’s the morning’s greeting after a restless night 

A tonic of comfort in times of plight 

A reason to stop, be still and to breathe 

Space for imagining and ideas to conceive 

A gift to another when energies wane

A symbol of sitting with someone in their pain

A time to escape from relentless demands

A balm for the lips and a hug for the hands

An invitation to check in, chat and to listen

Or to sit in the silence and watch the top glisten

When there’s celebration, grief or loss to bear

Its presence will bring a sense of something shared

A chance to slow down, to pause and just be

It’s my wonderful companion…the humble cup of tea
