You ready yourself with pride and poise,
Standing tall at the top of the staircase.
A VIP preparing to make her grand entrance,
We all watch for the cues from your face.
With a deliberate tweak you shift your Batgirl headgear,
Cape flowing, confidence growing,
We’re ready. It’s time.
Your two year old hand is firmly in mine.
A lean forwards, foot lifted,
You’re stepping with assurance,
You’ve places to go, creativity to grow,
A presence of joy to the people you know.
As you step on with purpose, more world to uncover,
My hope as you grow and you live to discover?...
That you’ll stand tall at the top of the staircase,
Know your worth, even when there is less space.
When the world shouts and whispers
That it wants you one shape,
And if you don’t fit,
Then there’s been some kind of ‘mistake’
“Be more beautiful...no not that much,
Don’t attract too much attention...
Stay at home...go to work,
Don’t give the word ‘struggle’ a mention.”
But know a worth that’s not based on the myth of productivity,
Build community that rests and is blessed with authenticity.
Let doing right not 'being right' be a feature that abounds in you,
Point out the infinite worth that exists in those around you.
You’ve places to go, creativity to grow,
A presence of joy to the people you know.
