When I see daffodils popping up,

I often think of the planter who,

on a cold and desolate winter’s day,

buried the bulbs deep into the tough, muddy earth

with no expectation of quick gratification.

And I’m thankful for their vision and patience.

And for the courage it takes to try something

for which there may never be a return.
