Influence That Matters

The voices we hear the most from in society are the loud, busy ones with a platform, who sound certain and who look like they are doing ‘big’ visible things. But who are the people in your life who have influenced you the most for good? For me, it’s the ones closest to home. The unglamorous work of quiet plodding and steady encouragement. The voices that value my small work and affirm my rest. The ones fighting unseen battles with fierce, quiet courage. Those who model asking for help when they don’t have answers or energy.

Last night I loved hearing how a friend is supporting those around her going through hard things at the moment. “I’m encouraging them to rest, to invest in their closest relationships, to care well for themselves and to see the power of the quiet, unseen things.”

In a world that idolises the busy, showy stuff, the ‘quiet’ work of rest and of faithfully caring for ourselves and those around us isn’t given the value it deserves.

Who quietly inspires you? Do they know it?

What do you need to care well for yourself at the moment?

The work that gets the least credit is often the most valuable.
